GIRLS' SKILLS PROGRAM!

Bringing GIRLS together through hockey 

with a focus on fun & camaraderie!

There are approximately 65 girls at GBHA (WOW!  an amazing increase in the last 2 years alone!).  In the past, George Bell - and I'm sure many organizations- saw girls sign up for hockey and then never return in subsequent years.  What a shame!  We realized that sports programs need to do more to keep girls interested.  So, several women chatted about their experiences in sports as young girls and identified some key factors that helped them stay interested for life... FRIENDSHIP/CAMARADERIE- on and off ice, FUN- both during training and afterwards, and focusing on personal 'bests' or team 'bests' - so less focus on competitiveness. By focusing on these key points last year, we met with great success!   Most girls (perhaps ALL!) are with us again this year and many more have joined.

THE 2011/12 SEASON:  You can expect an expanded and better program than last year!  

• We have MORE ICE TIME so that the Older group and Younger group will be on two different nights for much of the year. 
•  We have arranged for PROFESSIONAL FEMALE COACHES for many of the sessions (although parent coaches are still needed to assist!)
• We will continue to have some great PARTY EVENTS... AND opportunities for our girls to see the Toronto Furies (of the WOMEN'S NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE- WNHL) at our very own George Bell Arena!

There is no extra fee to attend these Skills Sessions thanks to the sponsorship provided by RBC Dominion Securities & a generous grant received from RBC Play Hockey!
