TYKE - LEARN TO PLAY PROGRAM

The Tyke program is unique because it begins with a "Learn to Play" format before moving into team game format. GBHA Instructors support players and parents to proved a terrific learning environment.  Instructors and parents are able to work with their child during the first 8-10 weeks sessions in order to get their players to a level where they are independently walking/skating and can join in the ‘Learn to Play’ practices.

In addition, when the sessions move to team play, our House League program is divided into higher level 'Titans' and lower level 'Olympians' division allowing all players to enjoy success in game situations as they continue to learn to skate and acquire basic hockey skills.

The goal of the Tyke  program is FUN!  FUN!  FUN!

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

From mid-September until the end of November (approx. 8-10 weeks) the Tykes participate in the “Learn to Play" portion of the program. Players are divided into one of four different groups based on skill. These are fluid groups and you can move between them to find the appropriate level for your player. These sessions focus on developing skills at a pace and intensity appropriate for the needs of each group.

Players are divided into teams at the end of November or early in December and are allocated into the appropriate tier according to skill level:

  • Tyke Titan Tier (from Old Timers and Veterans levels)
  • Tyke Olympian Tier (mainly Rookies and Prospects)
