INTRODUCING THE INITIATION PROGRAM
A program for all those players born after 2015 who don't choose to participate in the Competitive Development Program. Focused on having fun, and learning the core skills of hockey, the Initiation Program is the new answer to the old House League model.
MODIFIED ICE HOCKEY
Developed by Hockey Canada to make a child’s first experience with hockey fun, safe, and positive, the modified ice environment allows young players to experience more puck-handling, shooting, skating, coordination and decision-making.
CROSS-ICE HOCKEY
Players under 7 in the GBHA will train and play in a modified-ice format regardless of competition level. This is in response to Hockey Canada’s current mandate of age-appropriate programming, the Long Term Player Development model, and Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model.
HALF-ICE HOCKEY
Progression is the most important part of long term player development LTPD. GBHA Players 7 to 8 years old will train on modified-ice and play in a half-ice game format.
