INTRODUCING THE INITIATION PROGRAM

All players at the George Bell Hockey Association born after 2013 will begin the season in the new George Bell Initiation Program (GBIP). After a two week evaluation period some players of higher skill level will be offered a spot in the Competitive Development Program (CDP). Those players who do not wish to participate in the CDP, and those players evaluated to be of an appropriate level for the Initiation Program, will begin the inaugural season of the GBIP!

MODIFIED ICE HOCKEY

Developed by Hockey Canada to make a child’s first experience with hockey fun, safe, and positive, the modified ice environment allows young players to experience more puck-handling, shooting, skating, coordination and decision-making.

CROSS-ICE HOCKEY

Players under 7 in the GBHA will train and play in a modified-ice format regardless of competition level. This is in response to Hockey Canada’s current mandate of age-appropriate programming, the Long Term Player Development model, and Sport Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development model.

HALF-ICE HOCKEY

Progression is the most important part of long term player development LTPD. GBHA Players 7 to 8 years old will train on modified-ice and play in a half-ice game format. 8 year old players will play half-ice games for roughly 1/2 of the season, and full-ice games will begin after the winter break.
